In 1952 the United States Congress passed legislation authorizing benefits for Veterans and/or their eligible dependents. Today, through Title 38 of the United States Code, the Department of Veterans Affairs provides financial assistance to veterans with Compensation for service-related disability and pension for non-service related disability.
Specifically, the New and Improved Pension was established to assist qualified veterans and/or their eligible dependents with a tax free benefit to help with long-term care. This benefit has two components: Housebound and Aid & Attendance Benefit. These benefits can help veterans and/or their dependents with At-Home, Assisted Living, or Nursing Home care expenses.
The VA Pension Program for 2022 is funded at nearly $5 billion.
